“Wow” moment coffees are central to the Ninety Plus experience. Each season, there are a small number of prototype batches at Ninety Plus Coffee Estates – selected from hundreds – that “wow” us most and define new directions in taste to explore and share with lovers of extraordinary coffee. Each of these coffees is completely unique in the world of coffee taste and extremely limited in quantity.
Batch #0602 (strawberry preserves, lilac, volcanic minerals)
#0602 reminds us that coffee is a fruit/berry (not just a roasted seed). The power of the coffee cherry is captured and elevated in #0602. Although the aroma does have subtle cherry, sipping #0602 is where the taste explosion occurs: sweet bing cherry juice and lilac up front; strawberry preserves with subtle minerality in the long finish.
Batch #0526B (raspadura, hops, Champagne)
While processing a prototype batch of Ninety Plus coffee, we are often compelled to subdivide an inspiring process. #0526A and #0526B – for example – started as one experiment we were excited about, but we couldn’t help but split the batch and finish it in two different ways.
#0526B became a uniquely boozy coffee – orange zest, sweet caramelized sugar, and hops in flavor; a very lively finish which lingers with Champagne-like character.
Batch #0317 (rosemary, Sekai Ichi apple, lemongrass)
Success through failure. #0317 is an example of a process we had largely given up on, but this singular batch undoubtedly changed our minds and rose to the top. There is no other coffee we have tasted that has the rosemary/cardamom spice note of #0317 together with unique manifestations of cider and lemongrass.
